This is a love note to the endemic species of magnolia that grows on the mountain I call home, often unfurling its massive flowers before the rest of the trees in the forest have even regained their leaves from winter. The flowers are a welcome beacon on a landscape slow to wake. They are also experts at cyclical existence and connectivity - magnolias are thought to be one of the first flowering plants, with their origins dating back 95 million years ago. I can only imagine the knowledge that comes with holding such a perspective.
